Recently the door to the gas tank -- the door that gives access to the gas cap -- on my car broke. It still opens and closes, but it does not stay closed. If there's wind, for instance, it's blown open. I have two questions. First, is there a special name for this door? Second, what might I do and where might I go to get this fixed?

Thank you.

Hi vilenchik,

That is known as the fuel liid.

If it is cable operated, the cable could be stuck and not returning to enable it to lock. Check if the carpet is preventing the lever from retuening.

If it is electrically operated, the lock at the fuel lid is stuck or broken. Can happen for cable type too.

If it is stuck, try some rust remover and try to pry it out of hiding.
