I am preparing to swap and engine in a 94 mitz galant (4 cyl, sohc). The manual says that I have to decompress the air conditioner in the car. I would like to know how to do this. Is there a special tool I need? The engine I got is from a 96, I do know that I need to swap the accessories and such. And I already had a mechanic confirm that engine was blown. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Any info (especially on the first question) would be greatly appreciated. Thankx

Hi there,
I know that most auto a/c shops and salvage yards have the tools to recover your freon. Do not purge it, or release it in the atmosphere. It is illegal to do so. Freon (cfc) is the gas responsible for considerable damage to the ozone layer. Check your phone listing, there are some companies that come to your house and recover freon for a very small fee. Before you do so, Check the compatability of the compressor mounts. It is very likely that it matches. I hope this helps. Larry

So there is a tool that will purge the system of freon. Is this the decompression that manuals talk about? Is purging it into a container, is it that easy? Thankx for your reply
