2005 Mini Cooper S 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 47000 miles

When you push in Clutch petal on the mini cooper it stays down. You can pull it back up manualy and can shift it into gear and drive but the petal does not come back up on its own. There is resistance when you push down on the clutch - just wont come up on its own.
