Grinding when shifting

2003 Mini Cooper 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 87000 miles
I recently had a new clutch installed. A few weeks later, the transmission is grinding when shifting into fifth gear.
Service shop says i need a new transmission. What do you say?
