1998 Mercury Tracer
Car has a rough idle but it goes away when I unplug the top of the EGR valve. Also, a check engine light stays on and i was wondering if the light is tied to the EGR. Does this mean i need a new egr valve since the rough idle goes away when i unplug it? Or is it something else?

You can go to your local auto parts store and they will scan for trouble codes for you and tell you what's making your check engine light come on.
