LOCKED IN PARK
1994 Mercury Tracer
I have a 1994 Mercury Tracer with mileage at 434713. I was driving home I began to loose power in my interior lights and my head lights. By the time I got home, I could barely see. When I turned the car off, I was unable to restart it. I was sure the alternater was shot. I charged the battery so it could be towed but when I tried to move the car it was locked in park. I know they have a safety feature that does not allow the car to be shifted out of park unless your foot is on the brake. But my foot was on the brake. Someone please help. I tried moving the steering wheel back and forth but the steering wheel is not locked, the car is just locked in park. The little button on the shifter is also locked up. Help Please!
