Hello,

The fuel pump relay is located under the hood near the fire wall on the passenger side.

Here is a diagram to show you

Please let me know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Best, Ken

This is my original question...
I have a 1989 Mercury Tracer. It has been an awesome car up to this point. A few days ago it died in the middle of the road. I have replaced the fuel pump already. However it is not getting electricity to the new pump. I have spent 2 whole days looking for the relay. Can someone please help me? I have searched the engine compartment, fuse panel area, and in the center area of the dashboard. Could it be anywhere else? I truly appreciate any help offered.

I was offered this solution...
(I found an image of the fuel pump relay on this very site, here's the address:

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/mercury-tracer-1989-mercury-tracer-fuel-pump-and-fuel-pump-relay-switch

It could also be the fuel pump shut-off switch (inertia switch).
The Inertia Fuel shut-off (IFS) switch must be manually reset.

The IFS switch is located on the RH side of the luggage compartment. Access is gained through a hole in the luggage compartment back lower trim cover

To reset the IFS switch, depress the button on top of the IFS switch.)

I had seen this posting prior to asking my question. However, this information is incorrect. I have completely taken apart the underside of the dash. It is not located where this diagram indicates. Please HELP!!!!

Under the dash at the top edge of the carpet.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Pull rearward on the front edges of the center carpet panel and disengage the push pin retainers.
3. Remove attaching screw and carpet panel.
4. Disconnect the relay electrical connector.
5. Remove relay retaining bolt and the relay.
6. Reverse procedure to install.

They have this note with the location

FUEL PUMP RELAY (LESS A/C): Behind LH side of instrument panel.

FUEL PUMP RELAY (WITH A/C): Behind RH side of instrument panel.

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken
