1989 Mercury Tracer coolant temp. sensor
Engine Cooling problem
1989 Mercury Tracer 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 135000 miles
Hi. the temp. guage shows overheating, both hoses are hot, and hot air blows inside. that leads me to believe the coolant temp sensor is bad??
problem is it is a one wire sensor, but replacement is a two wire sensor. Its located in the thermostat housing. how can i get a replacement and does that seem like my problem?

One wire sensors use block as ground and are generally the sending unit for gauge, not ECM.
So you may be confusing the gauge sender as the ECM sending unit.
