Wrong Coolant

I just bought a 2000 Mecury Sable, 3.0, Vulcan 6.
It has yellow coolant in it, manual says do not use!
Local mechanic says its fine, no harm done. Ford tells me I need a flush and old green installed, fine with me, but what damage could have been done?

Hi there,

Depending on the coolant, and it's PH balance, it might affect, rubbers, hoses or be detrimental to alloy components, I would suggest you flush the system and replace with coolant recommended by manufacturer.
