Wheel Bearings

My 2000 Mercury Sable LS with 105,000 miles V-6 engine 24 valve DOHC is making a loud noise (radio does not drown it out) on the drivers side front. My mechanic says it is the wheel bearing and needs to be replaced ASAP. My question is should both front wheel bearings be replaced? Also, what does a repair job like this usually cost? Thank you.

Ball park around $300 as a guess, he will woute a price I'm sure. By description, you shouldn't be driving it.

I wouldn't replace the other side unless there is play or is making noise. You may not know there is noise there because of the bad one. He can check it afterwards. There are folks that recommend both side when one is bad, and it isn't necessarily, wrong, I just don't.
