Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 85000 miles
i have had a problem with this car for a week or so. the car will start infrequesntly and wont start at other times. when it wont start i jumpa start it and it will be fine for a day, a couple days, then for no reason it will not start.
i have replaced the battery, and checked the alternator. i checked the alternator by disconnecting the battery cables while it was running and it stayed running. i heard that if the alternator was bad that the car stalls when the battery is disconnected.
does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?
