Engine Cooling problem
1998 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 135000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Car overheated because fans stopped working. Replaced ECT sensor and fans started working again.

Now it's still overheating somewhat and the air conditioner compressor stopped working at the same time, the fans stopped.

Could the sensor next to ECT, the one that reports to the panel also be bad, or could the CCRM be the fault?

Chilton's manual is poor at best for diagnosis, it only lists the ECT sensor, cracked overflow cap, and thermostat. Since the ECT sensor was replaced the service engine soon light went off.

The sensor I'm mentioning is the one to the right of the ECT in the picture.

The sensor beside it is for the gauge...if you are overheating and the fans do work, check for a stuck thermostat, or bad waterpump, or blockage in the system

These tips will be good if you have no coolant in ythe oil or clouds of white exhaust! IUf you experience these, you might have a cracked head or bad head gasket! If so test radiator with a block test kit, it will cost about $50.00!
