I had my Mercury inspected and it failed under "Universal & CV Joints. My mechanic wrote out the things that need to be fixed, but when it came to the CV Joints he wrote Rt Axle instead. Are these the same things? And what does the lower control arm do in my car? It failed as well.

Ok the cv or driveshaft is one of the same. I have included a pic of what you need to replace.
Now the lower control arm is what allows the suspension to move up and down and has a ball joint on one end to allow turning. I have included a pic of that too. Hope this helps.
