A rattling noise? (1988 Mercury Grand Marquis)

There is a rattling noise coming from the underside of my car. It is either right between the two front tires or just behind them. This rattling starts when I start the car, then fades and disappears as I pick up speed, and then comes back when I slow down and stop. Any information on what could be wrong or even what parts to look at would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you should check your cataltic converters. Check for loose heat sheilds or hit them with a rubber mallet to see if the "bed" inside broke up into pieces!
