I have a 1989 Mercedes 420SEL and I have being problems with the battery: the car will start all day long but will not start when it stays overnight. I have taken it to mechanics and they could not identify the problem. The problem started when the mechanic replaced the alternetor and since then I have not been able to use my car, almost two years ago. Does anyone has any suggestions?

It could be alternator related, but with a volt-ohm meter and the engine running, check the volts on the battery. It should be 14 or over. I would also recommend unhooking a fuse at a time and note the spark of the positive cable as it is touched back on the battery. Something is discharging the battery. Once the spark stops and the fuse for that circuit is put back in and sparks the connection again you need to investigate the items on that circuit.
