Merc 560sel stopped while running

Hello,
Yesterday I changed the battery for Mercedes 560 SEL and drove 3 miles. I had to stop at 2 shops within these 3 miles. Suudenly on the drive back home the engine cut off and would not start.
All the dash lights come up.
I got it towed this morning and explained my mechanic. He cranked but it did not start. He says fuel pump needs replacement as he does not hear a hiss sound when the key is turned on. What could be any other problem.

Mechanic identified that it was not the fuel pump and replaced fuel relay and solved the problem.

I am glad to hear you have an honest mechanic, those are hard to come by, those 2 (two) fuel pumps would have been very expensive.
