1986 Mercedes Benz Other Repair Question

1986 Other Mercedes Benz Models outside fan front of radiato
seems the previous owner has hotwired from the fuse box to it seems the power line to the fan? is there a sensor somewhere or what do i do to make the fan come on when it is supposed when the temp rises thanks robert
