WE HAVE A 99 ML430 WITH A RECENTLY REBUILT TRANSMISSION THAT HAS STARTED TO REFUSE TO ACCELERATE. ACTS WORST IN COLD WEATHER. IDLES FINE AND SHOWS NO OTHER SIGNS OF CONCERN. WHAT ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS OF WHERE TO START BEFORE WE HAVE TO PAY THOUSANDS AT THE LOCAL DEALER? THANK YOU

Is the check engine light on? If so have it scanned first and see what codes the computer has stored. There may be a failure record in the memory that could lead to the cure. Does it feel like it is trying to take off in the wrong gear or does the engine just feel weak?

YES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE WE HIT A POT HOLE 5 MONTHS AGO. THE PROBLEM JUST STARTED OUT OF NO WHERE ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. IT DOESNT FEEL LIKE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT MORE LIKE A POSSIBLE FUEL LINE PROBLEM. IT IS REALLY BAD ON STARTS.

Have it scanned to see why the engine light is on, even if it was on before. Have you changed the fuel filter? Tuned it up?

TUNE UP YES, FUEL FILTER NO. WE WERE THINKING OF STARTING THERE AND ALSO WONDERING ABOUT THE O2 SENSORS. IT IS VERY ODD THAT SOMETIMES IT DOES THIS AND SOMETIMES IT DOESNT. THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP AND RESPONSES.

Intermittent issues are the hardest to find, that is why I suggest a scan, so we can see what failures the PCM may have recorded
