1996 Mercedes Benz C280

we have same problem as question from May 2008 - gas gauge shows empty, even when full. Is there an easy/inexpensive fix? I figure it gets at least 16 mpg city and with the 16 gallon tank, (plus 2 reserve, I won't count that) so I should refill in 250 miles to be extra safe.....if driving in traffic
also - our CD player (in the trunk) doesn't allow us to 'pop' out the magazine to load CDs.
