1997 Mercedes Benz C180 fuel problems

1997 Mercedes Benz C180 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 178000 miles
my car was running fine then it lost all power and stoped there is about 1/4 of a tank of petrol in the car but will not start .i have changed the fuel filtter but that has done no good. i have taken the fuel line off the filtter but when you switch the cr on there is no fuel pumping through the fillter would this be the pump has stoped working.if i was to poor more petrol in the car it start and runs for two min and the start to stop as if it was running out of petrol

The pump may be faulty. The c-class are common for that fault.
