1987 Mercedes Benz 560sl Difficult to start when engine is

Engine Performance problem
1987 Mercedes Benz 560sl V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 59,140 miles

Starts instantly and runs smooth when engine is cold.

When engine is warm (after a brief to extended shut down period) it may fire instantly then stall or may not fire at all particularity if i touch the accelerator pedal before cranking.
It will then take 2 to 4 15 second cranking cycles to fire and then runs very rough (flooded) for about a second and then runs great till next shut down.
Recently purchased car in immaculate condition from 85 year retired school teacher aunt in CA. Except for starting problem car ran great in cross country trip to Midwest. No warning lights are illuminated.
Suspect mass air flow sensor -- your thoughts?
