Poor shift quality can be caused by several things. However if the vehicle sits for long periods of time you may just need a transmission flush and new filter. When vehicles sit fluids oxidize and loose some of the lubrication qualities they have. When this occurs pressures that can be created with good fluid cannot be achieved with old fluid. However if you are experiencing very hard shifts it may be something a bit more serious.
