GLOW PLUGS

Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Mercedes Benz 300td 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 154000 miles

We were needing to replace the glow plugs and when we removed manifold and tried to work the first one free, it was very tight. I worked it back and forth for a little while, then it started turning but wont come out. Can you give me some advise and how to get the plugs out? I heard some time ago that this was a problem with the plugs seizing up in the engine. What can we do about that?
Thanks. Kelly.

This is a very delicate operation, you are going to have to turn into Dr. House. First of all the way I like to do it is to get the engine hot, before I attempt the operation, things always come out easier when it is hot ( that's what she said), but it is too late for that. What do they have to do is spray some WD-40 into the glow plug hole ( she said that to) to loosen up the carbon around the glow plug, and then very carefully with a prybar turn the glow plug, and force it out of the hole, very gently. Do not use excessive force, if you brake it off, you will have to remove the head.
