Cylinder head
Engine problem
1995 Mercedes Benz 300sd 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 185000 miles
Problem: Slow acceleration when starting, when it gets to 20-30 rpm's it starts jerking until it reaches 30 and when it drops down to 20 rpms it runs smoother, but it still runs fast.
Mechanic- Thought at first it needed a cold pack(?) but found sspark plug engine misfire on cylinder #3. Found spark plug on sylinder #3 filed out. Check compression-only 60 psi.. Removed valve cover. Leak down test cylinder #3 compression leaking out of exhaust valves.
Mechanic suggested cylinder head needs to be replaced. Needs either a new engine or rebuild cylinder head.
Question: Should I buy a new engine or have the
cylinder head rebuilt? I also asked if replacing the spark plug would correct the problem they responded no--what do you think?
Thanks
