1986 Mercedes Benz 300e wont start

1986 Mercedes Benz 300e 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
the engine cranks up and starts , then starts up for a few days, then it will not start, i wait about 2-8 hrs , then it will start, and the cycle starts again. what could be the problem?
