1978 Mercedes Benz 300d Wont start in really cold weather

1978 Mercedes Benz 300d 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 81819 miles
i have to wait for the glow wires to heat up and when it is really cold they wont. my in dash board clock has stopped working and so has my hazard lights and the back light. what could be wrong?

It sounds like the glow plug relay has malfunctioned just like it did on my 1978 Mercedes.
