1991 Mercedes Benz 300ce brake indicator light on instrumen

1991 Mercedes Benz 300ce 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 127000 miles
this is my grandmothers 1991 that she bought brand new. She tells me now that this light on the panel has flickered during driving for "as long as she can remember" . The breaks appear fine . The fluid is full. They stop great! Is it more likely a short in the warning light? I'm having it serviced but i.d like an opinion. i've heard it can be a short of some sort.
