My fuel gague fluctuates/flickers from time to time. Is it the gauge that's faulty and should be replaced or is it some other situation?

That could be a problem with the gauge.
A problem with the sending unit.
Or a dirty electrical connection between the two.

Does it seem to do it at about the same place on the gauge, or is it totally random?

About the same place. Between 3/4's and 1/4 full. My manual shows how to remove thru the trunk and unscrew. Easy to clean or is purchasing a new one better idea? Or any suggestions. Thanks craig! Phil

With the age of your car, it could very well be a varnish build up on the sending unit.

I am not familiar with what yours looks like, but I have cleaned a few from various cars with good results.

Little dense here. Sending unit is what I unscrew via trunk. So I could remove by unscrewing and then clean it?

Yep, it's in the tank.

Some cars, if you're lucky, have an access cover in the trunk. Other wise the fuel tank has to be removed from the car.

I would try cleaning it before I bought a new one.
I like to save money whenever possible.
