1988 Mazda RX7 Repair Question

"runs rough and won't idle"
Engine Performance problem
1988 Mazda RX7 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 168000 miles
I'm looking at buying a 1988 Maxda RX& GTU, but the owner listed it saying "runs rough and won't idle". He says the problem started within a week ago.
I'm looking at fixing this car and buying it, but I'm not sure where to start. He thinks the problem might have something to do with a bad sensor or vacuum leak, but isn't sure.
What might cause this sort of problem? Where should I start looking to find the root of the issue?
