I have a new mazda 2007 CX7, 4cyl with turbo. I was only using regular gas, says that I should use premium, but have had the vechicle for a little more than 2 months and I'm just starting to notice a skipping feeling when I go about 55mph. This morning, my check engine light came on. I was wondering if I start filling up with premium, will the light and the skipping go away, or do I need to take it to the dealership?

That very well may be the problem. You can buy some octane boost at a parts store to raise it back to where it should be.

However, if it doesn't resolve it, then make an appointment at the dealer.

A couple dollars or so I imagine. Stop at a parts store and see what they have.

The check engine light problem source has not been identified, so I don't know if it will go off. But we don't know if the low ocatane gas you used is having a bad affect. The engine is meant for a certain octane rating or it may not run right as it is expecting conditions of the higher octane.

So you can go to the dealer for them to diagnose it, when you may already have the answer. Since your under warranty, you may want to call the service department and see which way they recommend.
