Models mx-3 engine white smoke

1997 Other Mazda Models 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 40000 miles
Dear Sirs,
I have one Mazda MX-3 that shows a white smoke during the starting in the morning, and the oil is reducing the level every week, about a quarter of liter.
We suspected that we have a valve weare rubber rings, are we correct?
Please, indicate wich are the possible causes for such problem
