Like to know what makes it spit and go on, almost like missing, could be gas?

With little information to go no re engine type Carby /EFI I suspect that it is carby due to the age. I would do a compression test and check for a burnt valve, check valve clearances if they are adjustable and do a full tune inc fuel filter. I cannot be more specific with out more details.
