1995 Mazda MX6 New starter grinding on flywheel
Electrical problem
1995 Mazda MX6 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles
Upon engine reinstallation and attempting to start, starter gear hangs up on flywheel and makes terribe noise. This is a brand new starter. What could be causing this?

Usually happens if the starter isnt flat against the mount(loose).

I checked the mount and it is flat and tight. I'm wondering if I have the wires connected correctly to the solenoid. Could this be the issue?

yes and ignition switch, or the starter relay, or the starter itself may have an internal short, did you have it tested before installing it?
