Engine Cooling problem
1993 Mazda MX6 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 138K miles

everyday I come home and park my car and I notice a small amount of fluid in driveway. Its aboout 1ft by 1ft. Car ran fine EXCEPT after running it for about 20 min the speedometer starts jumping up and down like crazy. The dealer said there is no speedo cable--all electric. Anyway just now went to store and while I was in store (someone else was driving and kept it running maybe 10 min) I came out and there is a huge puddle under car and I could smell antifreeze. I got in, heater was on but blowing cold air. (He turned it on to try and cool car off). Temp gauge was at red. Turned car off for 2min then decided to leave cuz our house was literally 3 blocks away. Drove off and heard the lovely boiling bubbly noise under hood. As soon as we took off the temp went back down. But still no heat. Not sure if its thermostat, pump, or something else. Unfortunantly this is our only car (we're trying to keep it running good for 3-6 more months! Pray) Would threre be any possibility this jumping speedo needle has anything to do with this? They started about the same time?

The overheating issue is not related to the speedometer. The speedo is more likely to be a speed sensor or cluster. But the cooling system needs to be pressure tested to determine where the leak is. Hopefully overheating it didnt cause more damage.
