1998 Mazda 626 where is the transmission filter located

I was told that replaceing the transmission filter required dissasembly on the trany what needs to be done to replace filter

No need to disassemble the tranny, just the transmission pan. Drain ATF fluid. You should have a drain plug for it. Work from rear of transmission pan, loosen all trans pan bolts. Once the fluid trickles slow, remove the pan bolts, working from rear as it is easier for the fluid to drain. Remove the pan and you will see the filter. There should be a couple of screws to take out to remove the filter from the transmission.
