Steering problem
1998 Mazda 626 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 100000 miles

Car was overheating, and steering was very difficult to handle. It finally stopped. I had it towed. Tower said a belt was loose. Please give me a diagnosis.

HI there,

You will have two problems here, one the overheating may be due to a stuck thermostat, coolant leak, blocked radiator, head problem, fans not working the steering will possibly be a belt issue. the water pump and the power steering pump are driven by separate belts, the water pump is driven by the cam belt and if this failed the car would stop then and there.
