1989 Mazda 626 stalling

I have a 1989 Mazda 626 with 140,00 miles on it. When it is cold it runs fine. However when it is warm if I let the RPM drop bellow 1500 the car dies. I have changed the spark plugs and wires. A friend of mine told me that it could be the timing or the fuel filter. Can you please help?
