how do i replace the oil pump for the mazda 323. There is a continuing taping noise in the engen. every time i start the engen, the oil light goes off after about a second. Could it be the oil pump?

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge,if normal replace the oil pressure switch.If abnormal could mean oil pump and/or engine bearing.
