2006 Mazda 3 3rd Gear Synchro
Transmission problem
2006 Mazda 3 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 79,900 miles
I live in northern California. I am driving a 2006 Mazda 3i 5 speed manual with around 80,000 miles. My 3rd gear is totally inoperable. When I shift into 3rd from 2nd, no matter what RPMs are applied, it does not "catch" and makes a grinding sound, I assume it means the 3rd gear synchro teeth have been "ripped" off? My question is if this is so, will I need a new or rebuilt transmission? If rebuilt, how much will it cost to install? Thank you in advance, Joe.
