Hi,

This noise has started on our diesel Astra since the weather got cold. The ignition is started and it begins pretty much straight away. If the engine is revved a little, taking it past 1800/2000 revs, the noise goes away until the revs drop down again. After a few mins of driving, the noise goes away. If the engine is warm, the noise doesn't occur.

There's no lights on the dashboard indicating any fault.

I've recorded the noise and put it on my OneDrive account. You can hear it at http://1drv.ms/1yZGAKs

First of all reving a diesel when its cold is not recommended, it sounds like because the weather's getting cold you may have a weak battery causing the alternator to overwork to charge it back up and the belt is loose on the alternator. Once the battery is charged up the noise goes away
