Are there any strange/unusual noises being heard when you are trying to put it in or drive it in forward gears?

I do not hear any strange noise when I put the car into drive. The car barely moves forward in all forward gears, but goes in reverse with no problems

Does it feel as though maybe your brakes are locked up? This could prevent any forward movement but reverse would be much easier still.

it's not the brakes that stops the forward movement, the transmission sounds strained when I give it more gas, and it barely omves forward. I checked the transmission fluid level and it is at operating level and is clean. would replacing the filter correct the problem? thank you
