You will have to go get a scan and post the fault codes so we know what we are looking at here.If it doesn't change the way it runs you could still drive it, but i would suggest getting it repaired as you may be damaging parts

Read this article, it will explain alot

I have a 1991 Lincoln Town Car. The check engine light is on and the code it pulls is saying my ports need to be cleaned. Is this something I can do on my own or does a repair shop have to do it? I keep up with all the oil and brakes changes by doing them myself. I would like to be able to do this with out paying over $300.00 dollars for this. Thanks!

At the shop that ran the code the guy said that my port inspectors were clogged up. The code it pulled before this was egr. I changed this and still the check engine light came back on. Now i'm being told the ports need cleaning. He said it had something to do with the injectors. I think the code was a pfi. Hope this helps.

Check engine light on

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

What does it mean when my check engine light comes on after I drive the car approximately 20 to 30 minutes?
I had the following services done to my vehicle:

* Regular oil changed (Use Lucas Oil products)
* Front shock absorbers replaced
* Alternator replaced
* Fuel pump, filter, strainer replaced

Most check engine lights on is related to an emission
or sensor fault
you can put best oil in the car and best gas and have the regular maintenance done on it
its not going to change if you have a bad sensor
or wire
my suggestion : have it scanned for code s that will pin point the trouble area for you
you can post the codes for more help if you like
good luck

The engine was replaced at 200000 miles - the Check engine light comes on occaisionally - I need to know how which model of scanner is best to analyze engine codes. Is Equus 3140 package OK to use on this car. Also what type of Computer control system is used on this vehicle? Thanks any info

All those inexpensive scan tools are simply DIY versions of the professional tools and only have very limited capability compared to the real thing that costs in excess of $10K.
Most will give you generic codes and limited data.

Need more info. I am not a pro mechanic, in my opinion you need an OBD I Ford Scan (Computer codes) You could try to further articulate but without scan info we have no info to go on.

Today, after being on the road for about fifteen minutes, my 1990 Lincoln Towncar's CHECK ENGINE light came on. I thought I heard a noise (like a high pitched noise) when I noticed the light on. After about three minutes, the CHECK AIR SUSPENSION light came on. When I got home I killed the engine and then restarted it. The lights did not come back on and the car was idling normally. Any suggestions?

You can test for codes, here's how:

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/62217_Test_Connector_Pre96_17.jpg

do this and count the flashes...Count the flashes, a 22 will flash as 2 flashes then a short pause, then 2 flashes, if more than one code is stored, the pause will be longer. The codes will display three times and end with 11 or 111. Write them down and post here. First do this with the ke on engine off, then again with it running.

Your check e light has nothing 2 do with ur air susp light, is the car sitting low after sitting, does airlight come on while driving? Air pump only should come on when starting, new passenger, or more weight added 2 car. If it(pump) comes on speraticly, u have a leak in the system, usually the air springs, if not replced, pump will burn out. Arnott inc. Is the place 2 call, 4 new pump, and 2 new air springs. Ez 2 install. 365.00 for the kit. Coil springs r an option.60.00 at pepboys or autozone stops the headache, takes away from the ride though

You are answering 30 day old questions, and the first line of this question stated that the "check engine light" was on. Then the air suspension light.
