Hi, I have a 02 lincoln ls8. I love it but sometimes when I put the gas pedal to the ground the engine will rev up to 7000 rpm then go immedately back down to zero rpm. Or the Tachometer will rev up but the tach will jump inbetween rpm's but the car will not accelerate. It sounds like a sensor will keep it from firing on all pistons. Like a rev limiter but it is inbetween 3000 rpm and 4500 rpm. All this happens only sometimes. The other times it will run fine. Please help. Thanks Ryan

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
