Hello, I own a lincoln LS year 2000 168,000 miles on the car, recently I was driving down the road when I suddenly heard a breaking noise under the car near the rear tires -- the car lost power and the ability to steer -- I came to a complete stop and turned the engine off, I let the car cool off for about 10 Min. Or so and continually tried to start the engine -- I heard it clicking and turning over but it wouldnt completey start-- I tried this for about ten min. Finally I gave in had the car towed about an hour later the car would start but it had a deep knocking noise along with a tramendous amount of vibration -- the engine was shacking and knocking -- very loud and nasty sound --- I was tolded by two different auto M. That I blew the engine

my question: is the engine really blown and if not what is wrong and what would cause this?

in addition I just had an oil change and the car had a quater of a tank of gas during this ordeal?

If two different mechanics told you the engine is blown, I have no reason not to believe them.
Also, You'll lose the ability to steer anytime the engine loses power or stops because the power steering pump won't be turning at normal speeds anymore

And as for the breaking sound under your car, I wouldn't be able to tell you what it was without checking it myself. But if you can find out what broke, I could offer you some more suggestions and advise.

Feel free to ask me anything, but please try to be as specific as you can so I may be able to help you. Sorry.
