So secondary timing chain and tensioner broke on passenger side motor. How do I fix this? Can I just turn exhaust cam clock wise until it matches other cam then put chain an tensioner on? Let me know.

Here is the process for installing the secondary timing chain. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed. Let me know if you have questions.

Prior to installing a new timing chain on your 3.9L motor you will need to reset the timing chain tensioners. By inserting a paper clip or thin wire into the tensioners check valve you can squeeze the tensioner until fully collapsed then remove wire.
Here are the diagrams for the timing marks. Following an online repair manual like is recommend for replacing the timing chains, you can find one here https://www.2carpros.com/manuals.php

Engine Performance problem
2000 Lincoln LS V8 Automatic

I have a 2000 Lincoln Ls it makes a tapping noise when I start it up. It is drivable but I haven't driven it in about a month.I took it to a garage when it first started making the noise they told me the timing chain was going bad. I have had a few other mechanics tell me if the timing chain was going bad the car would not start. The first mechanic told me that I would be better off replacing the engine, because if I replace the chain I will have to replace the engine later.

The engine would still start if the timing chain were going bad but not all the way bad.

If this is the case, then it would make more economical sense to replace the engine.

Hello I currently have a couple mechanics working on my 2000 lincoln ls 3.9L v8. They are installing a new timing chain because the last one broke. They can't seem to get ahold of the specialty tool you need to align the cams for this vehicle.I believe it's called a camshaft alignment tool. It's just a crankshaft that locks onto the cams and holds them into place while you get the timing chain into the correct position. Could you please aid me in finding this specialty tool? Thanks

My secondary timing chain broke on the passenger side. And I need to replace it. The diagram you have is for the v6 model. My vehicle has 4 chains which is a v8. Two on each side of the car. Can you post a diagram for the timing setting on the 2000 Lincoln LS 3.9 v8.
