2000 Lincoln LS timing chain
Engine Performance problem
2000 Lincoln LS V8 Automatic
I have a 2000 Lincoln Ls it makes a tapping noise when i start it up. It is drivable but i haven't driven it in about a month.I took it to a garage when it first started making the noise they told me the timing chain was going bad . I have had a few other mechanics tell me if the timing chain was going bad the car would not start. the first mechanic told me that i would be better off replacing the engine, because if i replace the chain i will have to replace the engine later.

The engine would still start if the timing chain were going bad but not all the way bad.
If this is the case, then it would make more economical sense to replace the engine.
