I took the two nuts off the cover that are located on the rear door. Does it snap off or do i have to take off the carpet covering

Ok so you removed the two screws that are on the side just inside the lift gate? If so then the light assembly should swing out and there will be the bulb sockets so you can replace the bulbs.
