2004 Lexus ES 350 not really a problem, but a question

Air Conditioning problem
2004 Lexus ES 350 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I set the thermostat at what I want it to be, but my partner always pushes the temp way up to get the car hot or way down to get it cool faster. Then he resets it later to the desired temperature.

He thinks that the temperature of the air coming out the vent will be raised or lowered by increasing the difference in the temp, but I think the temp of the air is the same regardless, and that it doesn't get hotter or cooler any faster if you change the desired temp. Running the fan faster may help, but adjusting the temp setting is irrelevant.

Who is right?
