Smells problem
2005 Kia Sportage 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Once the car heater has been on for 15 or so minutes a smell starts coming out the vent. It kind of smells like exhaust. (My husband says it smell like burnt gas) I can also smell it if I am not using the heater but it seems to take longer for the smell to start and is much weaker.

I just had the water pump and timing belt replaced towards the end of last year. I am not losing oil, but when I had an oil change, I was told I the valve gasket and trans pan is leaking fluid.

I don't know if that is the case because I don't see any leakage or stain in the drive way.

The car just turned over 100, 00

What do you think is causing the smell?

Hi
You maybe smelling antifreeze lealing from heater core. Any weyness on passenger side? Coolant level good? If leak is small maynot have those symptoms. Try Aluminaseal to stop core leak. Valve cover or trans leak would need to be severe and get on exhaust and you would smell outside car.
Hope this helps
