When the car is idle and the AC is running, there is now a rattling noise. I think it is coming from the front of the car. The rattling noise goes away once the car is in motion. The AC still seems to be functioning fine at least at the moment despite the noise.

I've also noticed this when going reverse and turning the wheels tight. I've noticed quite a few complaints regarding the heat shield on the Kia Rio's, is this a possible cause?

Sure is. The engine will vibrate a litte more with the a/c on making new noises. Try getting under the car and gently tapping on the exhaust with a soft hammer, this should recreate the rattle so you can find it and repair it
