Oil pump

Took my 2002 kia to dealership, it was making a winding noise. Was told that the noise was due to clutch fan and bad tension pulley. Was told it would be $837 w/ parts and labor. After completing repair, but before leaving dealership was told that the car was still making the same noise and that it was coming from the oil pump. And it was probably because it was started with no oil or it may at one time had the wrong air filter AND that oil pump repair would be 900+ tax. Did not get repair. My question is what are the symptoms that an oil pump is bad or going bad and is there a way to find out if the actual repairs that they said were done we actually done and needed.

I am not trying to make fun of you and I know it is intimidating to be put in a position like that.

Now, when the Kia man comes knocking at your door and asks for over $800 donation are you going to give it to him?

Before you drove off their lot and you know that nothing has been corrected you have to let them know that they were wrong and you want to know what they are going to do about it.

I highly believe that they replaced the tensioner and fan clutch. I am assuming that the fan clutch is on the A/C. Older cars had clutches on the cooling fan for the radiator.

Besides a noise which I doubt comes from the oil pump, the oil pump usually pumps oil or it doesn't. There can be obstructions that affect the work of the oil pump. It could be a belt, fuel pump, starter, heaven knows causing the winding noise.

You were taken if the information you have provided is correct. I would ask for them to rectify the problem financially and mechanically.
